Pastor Scott was born and raised in central
Pennsylvania and following graduation from high school joined the United
States Navy. He served for eight years mostly with the submarine force
stationed at Groton, Ct. It was here he met his wife, Sandra, and the
two were married while both were still on active duty. After their
honorable discharge from the Navy they returned to Cadillac, Michigan
where Sandy had been raised. All during this time Scott wandered far
from the good upbringing of his family, and found himself deeply
involved in many of the sins of this world and on the path to
destruction.
Following the death of his father and his oldest brother, at an
extremely low point in his life, the Holy Father called him from the
depths of depravity and sin and Scott committed his life to the Lord,
accepting Jesus as his Savior and his Lord. It was not long following
his conversion Scott received the call to ministry, and responded by
leaving his job and receiving his formal education in Theology. Scott
holds degrees in Biblical Studies and in Christian Ministry, and has
served churches in several areas in Michigan.
Scott and Sandy have always had a heart for Northern Michigan, and
for the people who call this area home. The Lord has called them to
serve Him at Bear Lake Christian Church, and it is a place where they
truly believe they have come home too. Scott looks forward to reaching
out to the people of our area with the love and compassion of the
Savior, as he proclaims His praises.
Scott’s favorite verse is I Timothy 1:15-17: "This is a faithful
saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the
world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I
obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all
longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on
Him to life everlasting. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible,
the only wise God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen."
Just as the Apostle Paul tells young Timothy of his unseemly
beginnings, and the glory of grace and mercy extended by Jesus so that
others might come to Christ for Salvation, Scott prays that he might
spend his life serving God by telling others of the gift he has been
given that is also available to you.
In Love,
Pastor Scott Hoffer
